If you're shopping for virgin coconut oil, you've probably seen both "cold pressed" and "hot pressed" on labels. What's the difference? And which one is right for you?
What is Cold Pressed VCO?
Cold pressed coconut oil is extracted from fresh coconut milk without applying any external heat. The temperature is kept below 49°C throughout the extraction process. This preserves more of the natural nutrients, antioxidants, Vitamin E, and polyphenols in the oil.
Best for: health-focused consumption, baby massage, skin care, oil pulling, and light cooking.
What is Hot Pressed VCO?
Hot pressed coconut oil is also made from fresh coconut milk, but uses controlled heat during extraction. This slightly improves yield and gives the oil a mild warmth. Most nutrients are retained, though some heat-sensitive compounds may reduce slightly.
Best for: everyday cooking, hair care, general health use.
Which is better?
Both are genuinely premium products — far superior to refined coconut oil. If maximum nutrient retention is your priority, cold pressed is the choice. If you want a versatile everyday oil at a slightly better value, hot pressed is excellent.
At Lacca, both our Cold Pressed and Hot Pressed VCOs are made from fresh coconut milk sourced from the pristine coral islands of Lakshadweep — with zero chemicals, zero additives, and zero shortcuts.
